The coolest new toy at the Leadfoot Festival this year.
Claimed to be a “replica” of a 1939 Auto Union Type C hillclimb car, but given that I’m pretty sure cars built just before WWII in Nazi Germany weren’t being powered by British tank engines, I think “tribute” is fairer.
Scott Dixon was at Leadfoot this year and they asked him if he’d had a go in it. He said “No, but Rod (Millen, 5 x Pikes Peak champion and Leadfoot’s host) has and he says it’s pretty scary, so I think I’ll have to sneak up on it”.
I’m betting “pretty scary” is a contender for “world’s biggest understatement”.

A British tank engine is probably the closest thing you can get to a pre war Auto Union engine.

Come off it, supercharged 6L V16s are a dime a dozen on eBay, aren’t they?

OK, one each end for the Mini, that makes sense. What are you going to use the third one for - snow blower?

Let’s be honest
How hard can it be to make one?

It would be cool to be a billionaire and just bring stuff to these festivals all year long.

Couple of Audi V8s, a gas axe, you’re gonna get close, right?

Millen said it was scary??
On the other hand... that’s lovely. Not sure I like so much it is a “tribute”, but I can appreciate the work that went into it.
You Kiwis are all crazy – but the right sort of crazy!
